BEGINNERS NAVIGATION COURSE – SNOWDONIA

  • Duration: 6 – 8 hours

  • Participants – Minimum 1 person. Maximum 6 people

Designed for complete beginners, this one day navigation course aims to teach the basics skills of using a map and compass in the mountains. From understanding map symbols to practicing compass skills for use in poor visibility, this course is an ideal place to start for those looking to get into mountain walking.

This course can be tailored to groups of most ages and abilities. Minimum age – 8 years old.

No prior experience of navigation is required.

You will need to be physically fit enough to spend 6 – 7 hours on your feet in easy mountain terrain

10:00am – Meet your instructor and distribute kit (maps and compasses)

6 hours of navigation training covering skills such as map symbol recognition, map only navigation, distance pacing, compass work, low visibility techniques

16:00 pm – Depart

  • A private instructor for the duration of the session
  • Maps, compasses and map case (You can also bring your own)
  • Optional packed lunch

Although lunch is not included as standard, there are 2 packed lunch options available at an extra cost.

  • 1:25,000 OS Map of Snowdonia OL17 (Optional)
  • Compass with ‘Roma scale’ on the base plate and an adjustable bevel (SILVA or similar) (Optional)
