Designed for complete beginners and seasoned walkers alike, this two day navigation workshop is the ultimate crash course in map and compass navigation. From the very basics of map reading and compass use on day one, to low visibility techniques for off path exploration on day 2, this course is an ideal place to start for those wanting to build a solid skill base for adventuring with confidence anywhere in the UK.

This course can be tailored to groups of most ages and abilities. Minimum age – 8 years old.

No prior experience of navigation is required.

You will need to be physically fit enough to spend 2x 6 – 7 hour days on your feet in easy to moderately challenging mountain terrain

Day 1

10:00am – Meet your instructor and distribute kit (maps and compasses)

6 hours of navigation training covering basic skills such as map symbol recognition, map only navigation, distance pacing, compass work, low visibility techniques

16:00 pm – Depart

Day 2

10:00am – Meet your instructor and distribute kit (maps and compasses)

6 hours of navigation training, recapping on Day 1 before increasing the difficulty of the terrain and examining techniques for relocation in bad weather, off path navigation and route planning

16:00 pm – Depart
